Why must meat be bought from Muslim butchers? Since Muslim butchers ought to comply with Islamic requirements relating to slaughtering of non-carnivorous animals that have been allowed by Islam for Muslim consumption. Likewise, even if Muslims slaughtered cattle that was sold in a non-Muslim butcher, there is no guarantee that such meat is free from being contaminated by blood or fat from other carcasses that were slaughtered in a non-Islamic way or by pig blood. Likewise, meat products, could have been made from diverse and mixed carcasses due to which it becomes unsafe for Muslims to buy from non-Muslim outlets. Due to the lack of upholding  religious principles, we are now at a point in history, where these issues even exist in some Muslim butchers. Thus, religious bodies have been formed to oversee and supervise the slaughter of animals for Muslim consumption and to approve outlets which comply to Islamic standards.

Why is pork prohibited in Islam? The Qur'an has prohibited the flesh of the pig. We, thus, have to comply to the divine rule. Thus, even if a pig is slaughtered by a Muslim, it would still be Haraam (Prohibited) for Muslim consumption. We cannot claim that the rule applied to the early generation of Muslims because of health reasons or other medical factors relating to the pig. Thus, any meat products, which may even contain a fractional amount of pig flesh, would be classed as prohibited in Islam.
